| Flowering fruit trees are the first to bloom in early spring, a welcome sight after a flowerless winter. A plum tree, right, shows blooms before leaves, in early March while there is still little green to color in the background. The plum blossom, detail above, will be followed by leaves and then fruit, which will ripen under the leaves protection.
