Flowering fruit trees are the first to bloom in
early spring, a welcome sight after a flowerless
winter. A plum tree, right, shows blooms before
leaves, in early March while there is still little
green to color in the background. The plum
blossom, detail above, will be followed by
leaves and then fruit, which will ripen under the
leaves protection. A Bradford pear blossom,
directly below, is shown in closeup detail as is
a peach blossom, below right. A branch from a
Robinson's crabapple tree is shown in the
banner at the top of the page.
Follow the bloom of a
crabapple blossom as
it progresses from an
early bud with light
green leaves, directly
above, to just peeking,
above right, to opening
in the center, right.
