Flowers cultivated to bring their
beauty closer to home can flourish
among native plants and combine to
make a unique garden. A daisy
variety, upper left, leans toward the
morning sun. A hanging basket of
hybrid fuschia, lower left, is backlit
by the setting sun. Below, a red
hibiscus begins to open in welcome
of the morning sun. The hibiscus
bush must be removed to the
indoors during the mountain winter.
The lily and iris, whose bulbs remain underground in winter,
come back in the spring in a burst of color. Above is the
Stargazer Asiatic lily, fresh after the rain. At right is an iris,
given a soft, watercolor look by the early morning light.
Annuals bloom in many
shapes and colors such as
the pansy, above, and the
portulaca, which shows off a
variety of colors on one plant.
